Coach Colin

Team Instructor
Brown Belt

Colin has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 10 years consistently and teaching or assisting at least 8 of those years. In those 10 years Colin has ranked in different organizations as the number 1 competitor and obtained many medals in competition. However, Colin believes the caring approach and attentiveness in his teaching is far more important than any medal could be. He believes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is more than just a martial art, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a lifestyle and a tool for never ending self-improvement. Colin lives his life by a set of moral and ethical codes, the most important of which is, “Every day, you should wake up and be better than you were the day before.”

Every person walks through the doors of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy for different reasons. Some want to be the best competitor, some are parents who want their child to build confidence and physical fitness, and some are working professionals who are looking for a fun hobby. Whatever the reason, Gracie Barra Tyler can and will help you achieve your goals. While Colin specializes in working with children (Something he has wanted to do his whole life). He is also very adept in working with adults of all ages and body types.

Colin’s teaching style is not a singular approach, but a constantly adapting and changing approach to the art because what may work for a 6’3” man may not work for a 5’4” woman. Colin believes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a never ending journey that everyone if able should embark on at some point in their life.
